What version of EPM (minor + major - i.e. "2016.3 + su5") is this on?

Equally, what version & update of Windows is this (i.e. - "Windows 10 = update 1709") ?

The latter in particular could be related to such headaches?

So - remember that we usually run packages as LOCAL SYSTEM.

Is it possible that this is causing you to stumble? You can use PSTOOLS to create a CMD-prompt in LOCAL SYSTEM context, and try running the script via command-line & debug it that way?

The USUAL reason NET USE fails in such scenarios, I find, is either DNS and/or that the LOCAL SYSTEM already has a drive mapped to that server & thus NT-authentication goes wonky).

We are running 2017.3 SU3 and all of our endpoints having issues are Windows 7 Enterprise.

Ivanti Portal Manager Links

Hello,

We are moving from LD 2016 to Ivanti 2017.3 . In our corporate network we are used to launch common applications (especially web) from the Ivanti Portal Manager LaunchPad. When the client is new, it's not a problem: the links and icons are synced from the scratch.

In the case the client had the previous LanDesk Agent the links are duplicated or are the old ones. The links are in the path C:\ProgramData\LANDesk\ManagementSuite\LaunchPad . If I remove manually the links, and let the new agent drop the new ones, everything is fine.

Does exist a command line for the agent that do that (kinda clean DB, etc...)? Maybe forcing a script after the new agent is installed, and how?

Thanks a lot. F.

Windows 7 ...? OK - not what I had expected in that case.

In THAT case ... I'd say, get this opened up with support.

Ideally, check / make sure that this is something that happens CONSISTENTLY on the devices where it does happen. That's not a requirement, but it does make life a LOT easier from a troubleshooting / tracing point of view.

You can enable debug logging via the info here -- How to enable Xtrace Diagnostic Logging -- that may provide better info potentially. If this happens in "some but not all" cases, that sounds more like a bug or so (less likely - GPO or such setting) that's messing around rather than "you're doing something wrong" - thus the recommendation to get support involved.

We may end up needing to get ProcMon / other traces in to figure out what's going on with those devices & why ...

That is a non-critical error.

Think of it more of as a minor complain. Can't remember why the SYSTEM account would be attempted to be resolved for CONSOLEUSERS, but that message has been there for quite a while on & off.

In and of itself, that's not an "error" / something that causes you actual problems.

I would think it more likely that -- for a new system -- you may want to ensure that the LANDesk(/Ivanti) Scheduler Service is running with a account that can actually access your SWD-shares (if you have UNC shares, we won't be able to calculate hashes and such.

A bit more information on "it doesn't work" would be useful at this point .

what is the purpose of a "tag" in software distribution metadata?

So that you can sort / identify things in the portal based on tags. Those are quite customisable.

Examples would be for instance:

  • This thing is free.
  • This thing requires manager approval as it is effing expensive
  • This is a high-risk application that's prone to break things.
  • This is a category blue software (if "category blue" is something your org would use internally).
  • This is a "text-editing" or "productivity" software (Obvious in some cases, not so in others).

It's entirely optional & there to give you a chance to make it more obvious to users "what this thing is".

Sure, everyone will know "what VISIO is" (and you may want to tag it as "this is expensive - don't just install it") ... but if you offer up OpenText, Notepad++ and 3 other text editors, some users may just "install it all" (because it's there) rather than make up their mind which one of the 5 text editors they should use.

It's an option for choice. That's all.

You don't have to use it. It's there if you want to.

Give it a play on a test core, and you should be able to figure out pretty fast if this is something that makes sense for your particular org .

Hope that helps.

Issues installing Citrix Receiver 4.10

$

I am wanting to install Citrix Receiver 4.10 on some Windows 10 devices (mostly Anniversary but have also tried newer versions)

I am using a batch file to run the Citrix Receiver Cleanup utility to uninstall the current version, then add a reg entry before installing 4.10

If i run this on the laptop manually it works so I know the batch file is good.

If i run this from Ivanti it uninstalls but when it tries to install 4.10 I get an error:

SelfServicePlugin.exe - The application could not be started
This application could not be started.
Do you want to view information about this issue?

When clicking for more info it opens a browser saying:

The app is not configured in a way that makes it possible to determine the appropriate version of the .NET framework runtime.  The corresponding shim code is SHIM_NOVERSION_FOUND

You can fix the configuration problem yourself. Contact the app vendor to resolve the issue.

As i can manually run the batch file and install it I can't see why the above is pertinent (and i followed them anyway to no avail).

Can anyone help please?!

Cheers

Phil

Did you download and read the Adobe Customization Wizard DC from Adobe? It's really not that hard to use and it generates custom setup ini files for you to use with the setup.exe rather than work with the MSI more directly.

What we deploy is pretty simple from the Ivanti EPM side. Just call setup.exe as a Windows Executable Software Package. Some additional files are needed though. In the Software Package Executable properties window, select the setup.exe as the primary file and then go to the additional files section and add whatever else was created/modified/needed based on what the Adobe Customization Wizard DC created. For me this is currently abcpy.ini, acroread.msi, adobe_reader_DC.mst, data1.cab, a patch file called AcroRdrdc.msp and setup.ini.

The setup.ini tells the setup what patch and transforms to use and does a great job during the install.

I'd say look into it.

Good luck.

I never try with Adobe Custom Wizard but i have another software who need the path of files and not give custom wizard.

Pdfcreator, java, and some internals apps. A variable for sdmcache can be great. And variable of current folder can be better

You can always ADD a local environment variable for SDMCACHE. It's not like that can't be scriptet.

We have the following environment variables for WIndows:

... it'd not take long to write up a PowerShell script that checks whether you're running a 32-bit or 64-bit OS (and/or just "locates" SDMCACHE") and creates a new SYSTEM environment variable for it.

Once you've got that done, you can do your generic command-line call easy enough.

Yes it's not hard to do but if there is any variable without making new GPO with scripts (Our computers is very very slow logon with hundred of GPO and scripts).

If i have no other solutions i will do that but i believed Landesk add automaticaly SDMCACHE path

Re: How to deploy adobe reader

So "technically" we do have a reference to the LDCLIENT directory, but that's something that can only easily be accessed via SCHEDULED SCRIPTS (that's the %LDMS_CLIENT_DIR% reference mentioned above). But that's "old tech" that may not be super desirable in this case for various reasons.

Since the purpose here is to "go fast", the easiest solution may be to use the "LDMS_LOCAL_DIR" variable as a starting point, and crimping / editing that to use your location for the SDMCACHE via script which can then call your command-line as desired. That'd be the easiest / fastest solution here.

That's at least something that won't take a lot of effort & will allow you to start working "right now" with what you have?

Maybe the variable LDMS_LOCAL_DIR is used for specific thing inside Landesk.

I will let this variable clean for not have strange issue after ^^

I will check for making 2 packages one for 32 and one for 64 bits or use powershell script for create new environment path.

I just hope landesk will be never moved from C:\progfilesx(86) to progfiles on 64bits computers ^^

I wasn't talking about you CHANGING the local environent variable.

A simple script which:

  • Reads out the local environment variable
  • Does a "if {string} contains pattern like "Program Files (x86)" THEN ... thing A ... ELSE ... thing B" ... is what I was talking about.

That way you've got your options covered, and it should be less than 10 lines of script (including your 1 line to execute your installer if needed).

You may - in fact - want to read this here -- About Batch File Distribution Packages -- as an example (this is older and using BAT-files, but still holds a lot of useful lessons).

No need to overcomplicate things .
